The Gamechanger – The 4-Day-Week

Have you considered transitioning to a 4-day-week? What does transitioning mean to leadership, digitalisation, in-office-work and the fear around it? Is it possible to do the same work in less time? Let's talk about the experiences Andreas Schollmeier has made and what lead to his decision in this episode.

In this episode, we explore the evolving landscape of the tax advisory industry, where a new generation of professionals is taking over traditional businesses. With increasing bureaucracy and the need for modernization, tax advisory firms are navigating significant shifts in how they operate.

One of the most notable changes is the consideration of a 4-day work week — a revolutionary idea in an industry known for long hours and high stress. We discuss what led our guest to implement this change and the drivers behind it. What are the real benefits of a shorter workweek, and is it as simple as it sounds? From leadership buy-in to digital transformation, we explore the preconditions required to make the 4-day week a success. We'll touch on the necessary updates to office space, IT infrastructure, and the shifting profile of employees that this new model attracts.

Our guest opens up about the fears they had before making the switch. Would it affect productivity? How would clients react? We'll hear firsthand how those fears played out—and whether they were justified. One of the main drivers for change was a lack of qualified staff, and we discuss how the 4-day work week has impacted recruitment and retention. Is it a silver bullet for solving talent shortages, or does it come with its own set of challenges?

Beyond work culture, digitalisation is another key focus. As the company moves forward, they’re embracing new technologies like automation, AI, and APIs to streamline their processes and improve efficiency. We dive into how these innovations are shaping the future of the tax advisory business, and what steps are next in the journey towards higher margins and reinvestment into the business.

This episode provides a fresh look at how traditional industries can adapt to modern demands through bold leadership, innovative solutions, and a focus on both people and technology. Whether you’re in tax advisory or another industry facing similar challenges, there’s plenty to learn from this discussion.
